I love seeing people in romantic relationships, especially gay men. It used to be taboo for black LGBT persons to kiss and make love with each other onscreen. Even though homosexuality has been more accepted LGBT representation on film and tv is still looked down upon in some cultures. And so I created this blog post of the best black gay kiss scenes on tv and film.
Best black gay kiss scenes
Pose is a black LGBTQ series that has drawn the attention of many tv viewers including LGBT and straight persons. The show is about the black ballroom scene in New York during the 1980s. I heard about this show all the time but never watched it. So I recently watched the show so I could still hold my gay card. And boy I did enjoy the show. The dialog, acting, and storyline will have you coming back for each episode.
There is a hot kiss and sex scene between the queer couple Damon and Ricky. Damon is an old black mature man who’s openly gay. Damon is a much younger guy and could even be Ricky’s son. Despite their age difference, the men form an intimate relationship. Throughout the show you see the black gay couple go through their ups and downs. The hot sex scene between Damon and Ricky is when the two get in bed together. They kiss, massage each other, and passionately make love to each other.
Moonlight
Moonlight is one of the most popular black gay films. The film was released back in 2016 and hit home for a lot of queer black men. The plot follows the life of a black queer individual life named Chiron. What makes this movie interesting is that it’s gritty. It shows Chiron dealing with bullying, being raised by a drug addict mother, and struggling with his sexuality. He’s very timid as a child and grows to become a handsome young man who’s still conflicted with his sexuality. There is no full-blown gay love story but there is an intimate moment between Chiron and his childhood friend Kevin.
There is a black gay kiss scene that has gone down in black LGBTQ film history. Chiron and his classmate Kevin sit on a beach alone and just chatting with each other. At one moment they gaze into each other eyes. Just by the glance, you can tell that the two truly desire each other. and softly kiss each other on the lips.
The Skinny
The Skinny is another one of my favorite black gay films. The film is directed by Patrik-Ian Polk. The movie is about 4 black LGBT friends coming together for NYC Pride. The movie features some black gay influencers including Jussie Smollet and Dustin Ross. There is a lot of gay hookups in the movie. Within the first fifteen minutes of watching the film, you’ll see one of the black gay couples having sex.
Empire
Empire is a show written by black gay director Lee Daniels. It isn’t an LGBT show but it does have gay content. The show is about a wealthy black music mogul Luscious Lyon running his business with his family. Early on in the show, Luscious is very homophobic. In one episode there’s a flashback where he threw his son, Jamal, in the garbage because he put on high heels. Throughout the show, Luscious becomes more accepting of Jamal’s sexuality and even attends a black gay wedding.
There is one black gay kiss scene in the show that’s memorable. Jamal gets in a relationship with Latin hottie Michael. I love Latin men so I enjoy watching the romance between each other.
Dl Chronicles
The Dl Chronicles is one of my favorite gay black series. It is truly one of its kind. There were a lot of hot black gay kiss scenes that I normally didn’t see on television. Dl Chronicles was created and directed by Deondray Gossett and Quincy LeNear and first aired in 2007. I highly enjoyed each and every episode that premiered. The show focused on black gay men living their lives in the closet. All the episodes had huge plot twists but there was one episode in particular that I could never forget.
This episode involved a closeted black gay man named Mark Watts who lives with his boyfriend Dante. One day Mark’s cousin Terell comes over and pleads with Mark to crash at his place. Terell comes off as very homophobic and makes it clear that he would tell if Mark is gay. Mark worries because he doesn’t want Tyrell to know that he’s gay. One day Mark, Terell, and Dante go to the club and things go awry when Mark kisses a female. Mark and Tyrell go home and Terell and Terell’s friend arrives minutes later. Tyrell’s friend Reginald tells Tyrell that he doesn’t want to do work on a track. Terell says he wants to work on the track. T Reginald grabs Tyrell’s face and kisses him. The plot twist man!!

Queer as Folk
Any gay in their 30s regardless of their background or race has heard of Queer as Folk. It’s one of the most popular gay television shows to have aired. Queer as Folk is a tv drama that lasted from 2000 to 2005. During the time it aired, it was watched by so many groups of people. I remember it airing on Showtime and sneaking to watch the show as I was still in the closet. The show is about 5 different gay men who live in Pittsburgh, Pa. The main character of the show is Brian Kenney, a true nympho.
There are so many sensual kiss scenes in this show. There is one kiss scene between Brian and his boyfriend Justin is memorable. Even though Brian loves to sleep around he wants to truly commit himself to Justin. In the 11th episode of the season Brian takes Justin to a palace and there Justin tells Brian he’ll marry him. They kiss and give each other a hug.
Brokeback Mountain
Brokeback Mountain is an American film that was directed by Ang Lee. It was released in 2005 and was a very popular film at that time. I love Jake Gyllenhall and Heath Ledger so I definitely had to watch Brokeback Mountain. They are both sexy white men so I watched the movie just for the sex scenes. But besides those scenes, the movie actually had a great storyline. The story is about two cowboys, Ennis and Jack, who form and off and on sexual encounters after the first meeting for a job in Brokeback Mountain. Ennis is very conservative and Jack is more liberal.
There was a kissing scene between Ennis and Jack that made my heart melt. One day Jack goes to Ennis’s house to reunite with his family. As soon as Ennis sees Jack he hugs him. Even though Ennis’s family is around he still wants to be intimate with Jack. Ennis pulls Jack to the side of his house and kisses Jack. It’s such a warm moment since Ennis is extremely closeted but actually made the advance at Jack.
Dawson’s Creek
I don’t want to wait till my life will be over. That line comes from the Dawson’s Creek theme song. That show brings back childhood memories of some of the shows that I used to watch. My brother would make fun of the shows that I watched but nothing stopped me from watching Dawson’s Creek. The show was released in 1998 and was another popular tv sitcom. Dawson’s Creek is about four teenagers growing up in Massachusetts.
There is a gay kiss scene between the character Jack and his love interest Ethan. This was a historical moment in tv history since gay romance on tv was much less tolerated than today. What made it historic was that it was one of the first gay and very passionate kisses on tv. Jack is ready to be open with his sexuality and meets up with Ethan. Jack tells Ethan that he’s ready to show public affection and kisses Ethan. The only issue is that Ethan’s boyfriend is standing nearby. The tea of this kiss scene!!
Rocketman
Rocketman is a movie about Elton’s John life. I love Elton John so when I heard about the movie I was excited. Elton John is one of the world’s most famous singers. He’s made songs like “Rocketman” and “Circle of Life”. If you haven’t heard of the song “Circle of Life” God bless you. Just joking. Rocketman was just released last year.
There is one gay kiss scene that will make you wet by just watching it even if you’re not into white men. Elton John, his manager, and his love interest are in the music studio. His love interest walks him into a private room and gives a head nod to Elton John. Elton’s John leaves the studio and then he walks into the private room. Elton John and his love interest then kiss with intensity. They keep their clothes on but regardless the scene is still hot.
Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker
If you are about my age you’ve definitely heard of Star Wars. The franchise has been around for more than 40 years. I’ll be honest I’ve never sat down and watched a Star Wars movie from beginning to end. But some parts of the franchise did interest me such as characters like Yoda and Darth Vader.
As a gay man, the Rise of Skywalker interested was because there was a gay kiss in the movie. Even though Stars Wars has been out for so long there was never any same-sex kiss scene. In the movie Rise of Skywalker, there was a gay kiss scene between the female characters. The kiss is barely seconds long but something unexpected in the movie.
Creme Egg Advert
Creme Egg is a popular Easter egg candy. It’s oval-shaped chocolate that’s gooey on the inside. Sounds disgusting but it’s actually edible.
Just this year there was a commercial by Creme Egg with two gay guys. The guys held the creme egg between their mouths and ate the chocolate until they locked lips. The kiss didn’t seem passionate because of the food in between their mouths but seemed cool. As any gay would expect there was a lot of backlash over the commercial.
Descendants 2
Even though I’m in my 30s I still enjoy watching some Disney movies. Now, you won’t see me going to the movies by myself to watch a Disney movie. That’s just a little weird. But I won’t mind sitting down with my nephew watching certain Disney movies.
Descendants 2 is a Disney movie about the children of Disney villains. Two of the characters in the movie are Harry Hook, Captain Hook’s son, and Gil, Gaston’s son. In one scene Harry grabs Gil’s jaw and kisses him. However, this scene was deleted from the final movie.
Days of Our Lives
How can I not forget this show? My aunt loved soap operas and Days of Our Lives was one of their favorite shows.
The kiss took place between the characters Will and Sonny. I’m not really into white guys but the characters were kinda cute. Their first kiss wasn’t really intense since Will pushed Sonny off after he kissed for a couple of seconds. Will was married to a woman and even put babies in her so the kiss was kind of unexpected. In later episodes, their kisses get more intense and they even up hooking up with each other.
Eastenders
Eastenders was a soap opera that aired in the UK during the 1980s and was the first show to have a gay kiss.
The show became so controversial after the gay kiss, especially since homosexuality was looked down up. There was even a law called the Clause 28 which discouraged homosexuality. And so when the gay kiss happened on the Eastenders show people went crazy. The kiss took place between the characters Tony and Simon. They are on the boardwalk alone together. They talk for a while and end up kissing slowly and intimately.
Wrap up
I’m happy to see more black gay characters appear in television and film. I remember shows like Will and Grace and others that would depict the lives of white gay men. On the other hand, I could count on one hand the number of times I saw a black gay or black lesbian couple in the media.
I believe have no boundaries whether you’re male, female, transgender, or of any other sexuality or gender. And so as a black queer man, I love to see other gay men show affection towards each other.
