Grab a menu and get ready to celebrate. Black History Month is here.

Black History Month is celebrated through arts, entertainment, music, literature, and food.  Historically, food has played a big role in African American culture.   Foods like okra, cornbread, and black eyed-peas are traditional dishes that generations of black persons have eaten.  Most definitely, you can expect for these foods to be served in a black restaurant.

In an article by Lorri Mealey she highlighted the cultural aspect of dining establishments.

To celebrate Black History Month I’ve compiled a list of black restaurants in New York. I selected places that serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and of course brunch!!

Posted @withrepost • @yelp As we continue to celebrate black-owned businesses for #BlackHistoryMonth, we’re placing the spotlight on @socobk. This #SmallBusinessSaturday we’re highlighting Marc Daly, owner of the popular, Southern fusion restaurant. Read on for more of his story. #YelpBlackOwned⠀ ⠀ “As a child of immigrants, I have embraced the ‘American Dream,’ but I strive to make it an ‘Inclusive American Dream.’ One of my goals was to create economic empowerment in the community. This included creating jobs for young men and women… The hope is [that] one day they will seek to give back, creating a cycle of wealth built through entrepreneurship in the community… We serve traditional African American heritage cuisine in a modern and innovative way [that] has required me to delve into the history of the food. This process of learning has brought me closer not just to my background and roots, but also with the history and culture of all brothers and people of the NY and North American diaspora." -Marc Daly⠀ ⠀ 📷1: @eatmenyc⠀ 📷2: @genet_mmm⠀ . . . . . . #blackownedbusiness #supportblackbusiness #blackbusiness #shopsmall #shoplocal #smallbiz #smallbusinessowner #brunch #waffles #eeeeeats
